Follow in the footsteps of the rich, famous and powerful as we visit aristocratic Scottish castles, palaces and mansions steeped in colourful history. Visit the magnificient landmarks of Scone Palace and Balmoral Castle, explore the delightful gardens and grounds of Bowhill House and Drummond Castle and spend the day discovering the many gems that Perth has to offer along with visits planned to Blairgowrie and Kelso too.
DURING YOUR STAY
Day 1 – After door-to-door pick-ups, we travel to our hotel via Bowhill House & Gardens, located in the heart of the Scottish borders.
Day 2 – This morning, we visit Drummond Castle for a guided horticultural themed tour. With origins from the 17th Century, this Renaissance inspired garden has been well-preserved throughout the centuries to ensure that it looks just as wonderful today as it did all of those years ago. Look out for the magnificent 17th Century sundial at the centre of the gardens. We spend the afternoon at Scone Palace. 1500 years ago, this stately home was the capital of the Picts and throughout the years has been the seat of parliaments and the crowning place for many Scottish Kings including Macbeth and Robert the Bruce.
Day 3 – Today is a free day to spend as you wish. Perth is perfectly sandwiched between two glorious public parks and situated along the banks of the River Tay, meaning that there are plenty of options for exploration. Or if you prefer something a little more relaxed, there are a variety of independent and high street shops along with an abundance of cafés and eateries where you could try some traditional Scottish delicacies.
Day 4 – Sit back and relax as we’re taken on a scenic drive throughout Cairngorms National Park. This unspoilt countryside is home to 5 of the UK’s 6 highest mountains, 43 munros, 9 nature reserves, a variety of wildlife, lochs, rivers and beautiful woodland. We have a short stop in the town of Blairgowrie before continuing our journey to the spectacular Balmoral Castle. This has been the Scottish home of the Royal Family since it was purchased for Queen Victoria by Prince Albert back in 1852. Walk in the footsteps of Royalty as you wander through the beautiful grounds.
Day 5 – We have a short stop in Kelso, where the square is claimed to be the largest in Scotland. After, we make our journey back home.
