Day 1 – Today we visit Peckover House & Gardens. This elegant Georgian town house on the River Nene was built in 1722 and was home to the Peckover family for over 150 years. The two-acre gardens are regarded as one of the finest walled town gardens in the country, and offers rare trees, summerhouses, two pool gardens and over 70 species of roses. After free time here, we continue to our hotel.
Day 2 – After breakfast we travel to Norwich. As well as being the most complete Medieval city in the UK, Norwich is a wonderful fusion of modern and historic. It’s centre is easy to walk around and is home to many independent retailers and cafés that you can enjoy. Later, this afternoon we travel to Oxburgh Hall. Home to the Bedington family since 1482 this stunning red-brick house charts their enduring legacy of their survival through turbulent times. As well as early Mortlake tapestries in the Queen’s Room, Oxburgh houses beautiful embroidery by both Mary Queen of Scots and the famous Bess of Harwick.
Day 3 – This morning we take you to Melford Hall, for over two centuries Melford Hall has been the much-loved family home of the Hyde Parkers. Perhaps most famously, the Hyde Parkers cousin was Beatrix Potter and so this quaint mansion is full of nice little surprises – here you can see the original Jemima Puddleduck toy that Beatrix gave to them. After some free time, later we visit Bury St Edmunds where we enjoy the remainder of the day. Discover its most famous landmark, the impressive abbey ruins and their adjoining gardens. Once a great monastery, the abbey was built around a shrine to Saint Edmund, which for centuries was an important place of pilgrimage.
Day 4 – We end our getaway with a leisurely morning in Cambridge before returning back home.
