Yorkshire has one of the most beautiful and best‐loved coastlines in Britain, each one completely unique with its own charisma and allure. On this captivating break we’ll explore some of its prettiest towns and villages including the traditional seaside resorts of Scarborough and Robin Hood’s Bay, the award‐winning beaches of Bridlington and Filey and the enchanting South Cliff Italian Gardens and Peasholm Park Gardens.
Day 1 – Before arriving in Scarborough this afternoon, we enjoy a couple of hours in Lincoln. One of England’s best small cities, you can discover over 1,000 years of history at Lincoln Castle, home to the 1215 Magna Carta and 1217 Charter of the Forest. Walk the footsteps of past Kings along the 360‐degree wall walk through Castle Towers and explore the Victorian prison! Afterwards, take a short walk to Lincoln Cathedral before we continue our journey to Scarborough.
Day 2 – We begin the day in Bridlington, with its sandy beaches, award‐winning promenades and historic harbour, it is a hidden seaside gem awash with kitsch traditional entertainment. Afterwards, we take you to nearby Filey. This traditional seaside resort offers a gentle atmosphere with luscious parks and gardens to explore – making it the ideal place to enjoy an afternoon stroll, or a spot of bird watching! On our way back to the hotel we’ll take you to South Cliff Italian Gardens, designed in the early 20th Century these Italian Gardens have been featured in the ITV drama series The Royal.
Day 3 – Enjoy Scarborough at your own pace today. First recognised as a seaside resort back in the 1600s when the health‐giving properties of the Spa waters were discovered. Scarborough offers a wealth of attractions whatever the weather! It is always worth visiting Scarborough Castle, with over 2,500 years of turbulent history behind it. Climb to the battlement viewing platforms and afterwards, treat yourself to tea in the 18th Century Master Gunner’s House.
Day 4 – Today our experienced driver will take us around the handsome Yorkshire Coast. During the day we will enjoy leisurely visits to Runswick Bay, home to a sweeping, sheltered bay and charming red roofed cottages, it is one of the Yorkshire Coast’s prettiest destinations. Staithes, once one of the largest fishing ports on the North East coast, has the air of a place lost in time and Robin Hood’s Bay. Here, we will take you to the Old Coast Guard Station; this property managed by the National Trust provides you with the opportunity to discover what makes this part of the North Yorkshire Coast so special. Before returning to our hotel, we will visit Peasholm Park Gardens in Scarborough. Voted as the 6th Best Park in the UK in the Trip Advisor Traveller’s Choice Awards, this oriental themed municipal park offers a beautiful system of streams and waterfalls, mini bridges and mystical gardens. The park is also home to the world famous Naval Warfare – a unique miniature sea battle that has been shown on television screens across the globe!
Day 5 – We’ll travel today through the pretty North Yorkshire Moors National Park until we reach Helmsley, where we will enjoy the morning at leisure. This market town is home to some fascinating attractions including, the National Centre for Birds of Prey and the medieval Helmsley Castle. After some free time, we visit York for a little more free time.
Day 6 – After breakfast we visit the National Trust’s Nunnington Hall, famed for its picturesque location on the quiet banks of the River Rye. Enjoy free time to explore the period rooms whilst hearing the Hall’s many tales and discover one of the world’s finest collections of miniature rooms in the attic. Later this afternoon we travel to Ripon – the Cathedral city of the Yorkshire Dales. Here, you will find a trio of award‐winning museums and a Gothic Cathedral that dates back to the 7th Century just waiting to be explored.
Day 7 – After breakfast we visit Harrogate. Home to historic buildings and decorative gardens, it is one of Yorkshire’s most elegant destinations. Maybe visit the Royal Pump Room Museum; built by Isaac Shutt in 1842 it’s now a museum where you can explore life in bygone Harrogate. After free time, we continue our relaxing journey home travelling through the enchanting Peak District.
