Wales is one of the UK’s most charming destinations, home to historic castles, spectacular architecture and beautiful landscapes. With a unique culture, on this break you can discover even more of this country with visits to Worcester, Hereford and Shrewsbury.
Day 1 – We visit Worcester, a beautiful University and Cathedral city with a fascinating history of industry – explore The Commandery to learn more about its important role in the English Civil War – and a wealth of interesting architecture and half‐timbered buildings in Friar Street, including the Greyfrairs’ House and Garden, a 500 year old Tudor House. After some free time, we continue to our hotel in Ludlow.
Day 2 – After breakfast we visit Hereford Cathedral, dating back to 1079, Hereford Cathedral contains some of the finest examples of architecture from Norman times to the present day, including the 13th Century Shrine of St. Thomas of Hereford, the 14th Century Lady Chapel and the award‐winning New Library Building. Its most famous treasure is the Mappa Mundi, this medieval map records how 13th Century scholars interpreted the world in spiritual as well as geographical terms. This afternoon we visit Hampton Court Castle and Gardens, set in the delightful Herefordshire countryside, the oldest parts of the castle, including the Chapel date back to 1427. Surrounded by a stunning woodland backdrop, the award‐winning gardens feature beautiful herbaceous borders, water features and a river walk which gives you the opportunity to explore the estate further, offering stunning views of the castle from across the ha‐ha wall.
Day 3 – From its ancient Castle to its peaceful streets, exploring Ludlow is a real pleasure and today you are free to enjoy it in your own time. With over 800 years of history and many cafés, shops and greenery all around whatever you decide to do your day will be well spent.
Day 4 – Today we take you to Shrewsbury, here we have arranged a relaxing cruise for you along the River Severn with live commentary and tea and biscuits served on board! After a little free time, a professional guide will then take us on a guided tour of the magnificent Shrewsbury Cathedral. We’ll end the tour with a delicious afternoon tea, including a selection of luxury sandwiches, pastries, homemade cakes and tea and coffee before visiting Welshpool this afternoon. This market town is home to a traditional centre lined with fine Georgian buildings.
Day 5 – We retrace our footsteps home.
Described by the New York Times as “the most handsome inn in the world” the Feathers Hotel is one of Ludlow’s most popular attractions. Set in a magnificent timber‐framed building in the centre of picturesque Ludlow.
